Ensuring Proof of Remediation, Not Just Proof of Assessment

Ensuring Proof of Remediation, Not Just Proof of Assessment

Identifying a fire safety defect is important. But it is only the beginning of the process.

A failed fire door, damaged compartmentation or an incorrectly sealed service penetration may be recorded during an inspection, added to a report and assigned an action.

None of that proves the problem was actually fixed.

For property owners and compliance teams, this distinction matters. A strong audit trail should show more than what was wrong on the day of assessment. It should demonstrate what happened next.

An assessment identifies risk. Remediation removes it.

Fire safety inspections create visibility.

They help teams understand where defects exist, which assets require attention and where remedial work needs to take place.

But once that information has been captured, there needs to be a clear route from defect to resolution.

Without it, actions can disappear into email chains, spreadsheets or separate contractor systems. Work may be marked as complete without supporting evidence, while other issues remain unresolved simply because responsibility was unclear.

Across a large property portfolio, those gaps become increasingly difficult to manage.

A report full of identified defects may demonstrate that an assessment took place. It does not demonstrate that the building is now safer.

What does a strong remediation trail look like?

Every defect should have a clear history.

That means being able to see when it was identified, where it is located, what remedial action was required, who completed the work and when it was finished. Crucially, there should also be evidence.

Before-and-after photographs, completion notes and supporting documentation help create confidence that the original issue has genuinely been resolved.

If the building is later audited, teams should be able to retrieve that information quickly without having to piece together records from multiple sources.

Connect inspections and remedials

This is where digital fire safety management becomes particularly valuable.

Aurora allows fire risk assessments, fire door and compartmentation inspections, installations and remedial works to be managed within one system.

Instead of treating the assessment and the repair as two separate processes, teams can maintain a continuous record from the moment a defect is identified through to completion.

Using fire safety software also gives property managers greater visibility over outstanding actions. Rather than waiting until the next inspection to discover that something was never resolved, teams can monitor remedials as they progress.

That creates greater accountability for everyone involved.

Build an audit trail that proves the job is finished

Good fire safety records should answer two questions:

What was wrong? And, just as importantly: What did we do about it?

For property owners, being able to demonstrate both creates a far stronger approach to compliance and risk management.

Aurora helps connect every stage of that process, giving you a clear digital record of assessments, defects and completed remediation.

Because spotting the problem is only half the job.
